Pokemon Prismatic Evolutions — Complete Set Review

Our in-depth review of the highly anticipated Prismatic Evolutions expansion. Pull rates, chase cards, and whether it's worth the price.

Pokemon Prismatic Evolutions — Complete Set Review

Overview

Pokemon Prismatic Evolutions is the latest expansion in the Scarlet & Violet era, featuring stunning prismatic artwork on fan-favorite Eeveelutions. This set has generated massive hype in the collecting community, and for good reason — the card designs are some of the best we've seen in years.

The set contains 186 cards in the main list plus 66 secret rares, for a total of 252 cards. The secret rare section is where the magic happens: prismatic-textured full arts, gold cards, and the crown jewel Eeveelution Prismatic Rares that have taken over social media. Whether you're a competitive player or a pure collector, this expansion has something for you.

Prismatic Evolutions launched in both Japanese and English editions, and here in Thailand both versions are readily available. Japanese boxes dropped first and sold out within hours at most shops — a strong indicator of the sustained demand this set commands.

Chase Cards & Secondary Market Prices

The standout cards in this set are the Prismatic Rare Eeveelutions. Each of the eight Eeveelutions receives a special prismatic treatment that creates a holographic rainbow effect across the entire card. Umbreon and Sylveon are the most sought-after, with market prices already exceeding ฿15,000 for PSA 10 grades.

Beyond the Eeveelutions, the Special Art Rare Pikachu from this set has become a modern classic, trading at ฿8,000–10,000 raw and upwards of ฿18,000 in PSA 10. The full-art trainer cards are also exceptional — the Cynthia SAR in particular features a dynamic composition that collectors adore, sitting comfortably around ฿5,000 for a clean copy.

For collectors on a tighter budget, the standard Illustration Rares offer beautiful artwork at more accessible price points (฿500–1,500 each). These are often overlooked but make excellent binder pieces and could appreciate as the set goes out of print.

Pull Rates & Box Breakdown

Based on our analysis of over 100 booster boxes, the pull rates for Prismatic Evolutions are fairly generous. You can expect roughly 1 Prismatic Rare per 2-3 boxes, with Special Art Rares appearing at about 1 per box. The hit rate for standard holos and V cards is consistent with other modern sets.

For Japanese boxes (30 packs, ฿2,490 at Kira Cards), you're virtually guaranteed at least 2 ultra rares and a handful of holos. English booster boxes (36 packs, ฿3,690) don't carry the same guarantees, but the average hit rates are comparable over enough volume. Elite Trainer Boxes (฿1,890) are a solid middle ground — 9 packs plus the accessories.

A practical tip: if you're chasing a specific Prismatic Rare Eeveelution, buying singles is almost always more cost-effective than ripping boxes. The odds of pulling your exact target are quite low. Save the box openings for the overall experience and buy the specific chase card separately.

Card Quality & Print Differences

One of the pleasant surprises with Prismatic Evolutions is the noticeable improvement in English card quality. The texturing on SAR cards feels closer to Japanese standards than any recent English set. Centering has also improved, which is good news if you plan to submit cards for grading.

That said, Japanese prints still edge ahead on consistency. We've noticed fewer print lines and more uniform holofoil patterns across JP boxes. If grading potential matters to you, Japanese Prismatic Evolutions cards are the safer choice — centering alone tends to grade a half-point higher on average.

The prismatic foil technology itself is new to the Pokemon TCG and genuinely impressive. Under direct light, the Prismatic Rares shift through a full color spectrum in a way that's difficult to capture in photos. These are cards you need to see in person to fully appreciate.

Competitive Playability

Prismatic Evolutions isn't just a collector's set — it introduces several tournament-viable cards. The new Eevee engine provides flexible evolution paths that slot into multiple deck archetypes. Leafeon ex and Jolteon ex have already seen regional top-cut placements, and the Flareon ex build is gaining traction as a counter to metal-type decks.

The trainer cards are where competitive players should focus their attention. Three new Supporter cards from this set have become format staples almost overnight, with the full-art versions commanding premium prices as a result. If you play competitively and haven't picked up playsets of these trainers yet, do it now before prices climb further.

Investment Outlook

Prismatic Evolutions has all the hallmarks of a set that will hold value long-term: beloved Pokemon (Eeveelutions are perennially popular), innovative card treatments (the prismatic technology is a first), and strong demand that's already straining supply.

We expect sealed product to appreciate once this set rotates out of print. Japanese booster boxes in particular tend to climb in value faster due to lower initial print runs. If you can set aside one or two sealed boxes at current prices (฿2,490 JP / ฿3,690 EN), your future self will likely thank you.

For single cards, the Umbreon Prismatic Rare is the safest long-term hold. Umbreon has a decade-long track record of appreciating across every set it appears in. The Sylveon and Espeon Prismatic Rares are strong secondary picks.

Where to Buy

At the time of writing, Japanese booster packs are ฿149 and English packs are ฿169. Boxes move fast and we restock weekly, but popular products like this one can sell out between shipments. If you want to secure a box, ordering online through our store is the most reliable option.
